A Conversation
“I count a total of 23 cakes. Why so many?”
“I followed the recipe and it makes a lot of cakes.”
“You must be insane. Who’s going to eat all of them?”
“The crumbs are awfully good. I hope somebody will eat them.”
“But you have no idea? I thought you were making one pound cake.”
“No, the cookbook called for a pound of butter, eggs, flour, and sugar.”
“That can’t be right. The whole cake should weigh only a pound.”
“They’re all under a pound.”
“How do you know?”
“I weighed them. Do you think we should include a knife to bring up the weight?”
“We would need two-dozen knives!”
“But then we could cut off a slice.”
